The Illinois EPR Research Center

Welcome to the Illinois Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Research Center (IERC) home page. The IERC is a research laboratory started in 1985 and for 18 years was supported in part by the NIH National Center for Research Resources under grant RR01811.  It is now a service facility supported by user fees and by subsidies from the School of Molecular and Cellular Biology, the School of Chemical Sciences, and the office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. It is located on the campus of the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign. Its Director is Professor R. Linn Belford.  The Associate Director is Antony R. Crofts, and the Assistant Director and Laboratory Manager is Mark J. Nilges.

Purpose

IERC has a number of purposes. The primary purpose is to provide the the University of Illinois as well as other members of scientific community with EPR (also called ESR, electron spin resonance, or EMR, electron magnetic resonance), ENDOR, and ESEEM facilities and expertise. In addition, the IERC is involved in a number of collaborative studies and works with scientists worldwide who are interested in EPR techniques and encourage scientists of all disciplines to visit our center and undertake collaborative or other work. Where feasible, samples can be sent in for spectral examination by laboratory personnel. Prospective users should contact Dr. Mark Nilges, Lab Manager, (_mjnilges@illinois.edu_)  or Professor R. For your information: For about 15 years, the IERC also was the editorial office for the international EPR Newsletter and management office for the International EPR Society (IES). Starting in 2003, Prof. Belford has become Founder Editor of the Newsletter; the Society management office has moved to Milwaukee, WI, USA (Dr. Chris Felix, Treasurer of IES) and the editorial office to Kazan, Tatarstan, RU (Dr. Laila Mosina, Editor of  EPR Newsletter).
